Change Energy Managed Energy Services

What is Managed Energy Services?

Managed Energy Services (MES) is Change Energy’s fully managed approach to electricity that goes beyond traditional energy supply. Instead of simply providing power, we actively design, optimise, and manage your energy use to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and lower emissions.

It’s a shift from passive energy purchasing to an active energy strategy—where your electricity system is continuously improved behind the scenes.

Managed Energy Services follows a structured, end-to-end process:

How it works

Step 1: Energy analysis

We assess how your business is currently using energy, identifying inefficiencies, cost drivers, and opportunities for improvement.

Step 2: Tailored solution design

We develop a customised energy strategy that will include batteries, network optimisation and smarter load management.

Step 3: Implementation

We manage approvals, installation, and integration of the selected solutions so everything is implemented seamlessly.

Step 4: Ongoing optimisation

Once in place, we continuously monitor and optimise your energy usage in the background to ensure ongoing savings and performance improvements.

Benefits of Managed Energy Services

Managed Energy Services is designed to deliver medium to long-term value beyond simple energy procurement:

Primary Benefits

  • Reduced network charges
  • Reduce capacity charges

25% of a customers bill saved.

Additional Benefits

  • Improved energy visibility and control
  • Reduced emissions and stronger sustainability outcomes
  • Reduced electricity costs through arbitrage (where available)
  • Access to modern energy technologies without operational burden

Change Energy as your electricity retailer is able to unlock the value streams simultaneously.

Alternative solutions, such as demand response programs, can help reduce capacity-related costs by lowering peak demand. However, they do not directly impact network charges.

Similarly, electricity arbitrage opportunities—shifting energy consumption or storage to take advantage of price differences across time periods—are generally not available outside of a full retail energy offering.

In contrast, an integrated retail energy approach enables optimisation across network charges, capacity costs, and electricity pricing, delivering a more complete and coordinated savings outcome.

Case Study

Battery Installation 2025/2026

In December 2024, a Change Energy customer engaged us to address escalating electricity costs. In response, we worked collaboratively to develop a solution focused on both cost reduction and emissions reduction.

In partnership with Solargain and iStore, Change Energy developed its Managed Energy Services (MES) offering. The solution is designed to reduce network charges, mitigate capacity-related costs, and lower emissions through the integration of renewable energy and advanced energy management strategies.

The project received approval from Western Power and was successfully commissioned in early June 2026. The secondary college is now actively benefiting from improved energy efficiency, reduced operational costs, and enhanced sustainability outcomes.

This case demonstrates how institutions with complex infrastructure and energy requirements can achieve meaningful long-term improvements through integrated, managed energy solutions that simplify operations and optimise performance.
